Meganne Stepka is not only an active in the local music scene, both as a solo performer and member of a couple of bands (Meg & the Megnetosphere, 80s Ladies) she’s also one of those people who serves as a catalyst on the scene, providing exposure opportunities for other musicians.
During the pandemic she started the 48-Hour Virtual Music Fest on Facebook, offering one-hour slots to performers of all types and partnering with various charities to raise money and awareness.
Since 2015, she’s also been the host of the Manic Monday Open Mic nights, providing opportunities for both seasoned performers and newcomers to get up and strut their stuff, try out new material, hang out, meet other musicians and maybe generate new collaborations. Each open mic night features about a dozen performers (although she’s had a many as 20, so she can probably fit you in!)
Starting this month on January 16, it has a new home at Mercury Music Lounge (18209 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood), where it kicks off at 9pm every Monday and goes until midnight. As part of the latest era of Manic Monday, to keep things fresh, she’ll feature a different artist each week plying a 20-minute set early in the evening. Follow the Instagram page to see who it will be, or follow the Manic Monday Facebook page.
