Learn About Historical Photo Processes & Try Some Creating at CMA’s Art Up Close

Sat 8/19 @ 11AM-3PM

The Cleveland Museum of Art isn’t all about just looking; it also provides opportunities for doing, inspired by what you see.

Every month on the third Saturday, it offers a change to explore a different art-making process led by a local artist, with demonstrations of what they do and related hand-on activities. There are also be objects from the collection that relate to the topic of the month.

This month, in honor of World Photographer Day, the maker is photographer Greg Martin, who specializes in the laborious antique wet collodion process from the mid 1800s, a far cry from snapping a quick photo with your phone. Learn about the thought, planning and work that goes into images using this process. You’ll see photos from CMA’s education collection, and you can enter a drawing to have Greg take a photo of you using the collidion process.

It takes place in the Ames Family Atrium and it’s free and open to all.
