The Rocky River Chamber Music Society kicks off its 2021-22 season this week, admitting a live audience for the first time in a year and a half but retaining the streaming option that let many more people enjoying its concerts. It’s also got a new venue for this concert due to pandemic-related issues: Lakewood Congregational Church, not too far from its former home at West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church in Rocky River.
For the season kickoff they’ll be welcoming the Auryn String Quartet from Cologne, Germany, a rarity among such ensembles: they have had no personnel changes since their founding in 1981. However, they are calling it a day and this will be their final season, ending as they began.
Violinists Matthias Lingenfelder and Jens Oppermann, violist Stewart Eaton and cellist Andreas Arndt will be performing Haydn’s String Quartet No. 2, op. 55; Beethoven’s String Quartet, No. 1, op. 18; and Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 6, op. 80.
As always the concert is free and open to all. Masks are required. It will be streamed
at RRCMS.org and at YouTube.RRCMS.
