PHOTOSTREAM: “Korean Couture” @ Cleveland Museum of Art by Anastasia Pantsios

04.26.2024 Korean Couture @ Cleveland Museum of Art

Fri 4/26

This past week, the Cleveland Museum of Art opened the latest of its shows on fashion, focusing on Korean couture designers, including influential designers of the past and those currently working. While some of the garments in the show, called Korean Couture: Generations of Revolution, drew on Korean history and culture (and the exhibit opened with replicas of traditional Korean garments), others were so distinctive and imaginative, they could have been created by a talented designer almost anywhere. The pieces ranged from a chic lavender suit, to an elegant Charles James-influenced gown, to a coat constructed from stuffed teddy bears, to a weird “hat” that completely covered the wearer from head to toe. Video of some of the garments being worn on the runway runs in continuous loop, giving visitors an idea of how they were styled.
