The 1968 film The Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach, directed by French fimmakers Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, is organized around a chronological series of excerpts from the works of J.S. Bach connected by a series of fictional diary excerpts by his second wife Anna Magdalena. The musicians, led by Dutch keyboard player Gustav Leonhardt as Bach, performed many of the pieces dressed in period costumes in the locations where they premiered, often in a single take.

The film screens at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Morley Lecture Hall. Admission is $10; $7 for CMA members.
