Happy Dog Takes on the World Takes on the Role of Oil in the Persian Gulf

Tue 3/5 @ 7:30PM

February’s Happy Dog Takes on the World examines the evolving role of oil and the future of energy as a whole. In his new book, Energy Kingdoms: Oil and Political Survival in the Persian Gulf, Jim Krane goes deep into the sources of oil, the way the resource transforms a country’s economy, and its direct relationship with climate change. Krane focuses closely on the Persian Gulf, and how countries like Bahrain and Kuwait saw a complete flip from global obscurity to leading voices of innovation in energy.

WCPN’s Tony Ganzer will talk with Krane about the future of the economy and the government of these oil-dependent nations in a more climate-focused market. The two will discuss the Middle East’s rising prominence in the climate change conversations. As a correspondent for the Associated Press in Dubai, Krane spent years covering the economic boom and geopolitical implications.

Enjoy this free and somewhat informal discussion at the Happy Dog — a bar and build-your-own-hot dog restaurant, where you can go with a classic mustard and relish or add Froot Loops and chunky peanut butter to your creation. Happy Dog Takes on the World is a City Club of Cleveland co-promotion that combines the quirky and friendly with the serious and informative…a combination as strange as a hot dog with peanut butter until you try it.

Discussion begins at 7:30pm, but arrive early to secure a table or spot at the bar!
