Rock City

Not only are the 2012 Rock Hall Inductions expected to bring in $15 million or so to our local economy, it’s hard to calculate the value they bring, once every three years, to our collective efforts in promoting our region as an paralleled place for cool people to start a career, a family or a business. Stay tuned as CoolCleveland broadcasts live on Tue 4/10 at 1:30PM, then again from the Red Carpet. Congrats to the CoolCleveland reader who downloaded our mobile app for iPhone or ‘Droid and won a complete package of Induction tickets.

We welcome thousands of visitors to our burg this week, but in typical Cleveland fashion, the Induction festivities are by far the only thing going on. Check out our stories and links below for the 411 on a Polish Mardi Gras, the hugely popular Monster Drawing Rally at SPACES, a riveting Project Gilgamesh by DBR at Tri-C, an edible books festival, a space party at the Science Center, and even an Easter Sunday Gospel Brunch at HOB, plus discussions on entrepreneurship & sustainability. This city rocks hard. –Thomas Mulready

One Big Polish Mardi Gras
Dyngus Day Cleveland Returns

Dyngus Day? Um, OK. Is this some sort of holiday celebrating numbskulls and goofballs? Sadly, no; instead it’s a Polish tradition — Dyngus is pronounced dean-goose — that last year made its Northeast Ohio debut…

With the release of the video showing George Zimmerman in police custody following the killing of Trayvon Martin without so much as a visible bruise (let alone the bloody nose and gash to the back of his head others have claimed he suffered), coupled with the news a court-certified expert in forensic voice identification stated the voice heard crying for help is not that of the shooter (as his father has claimed), and it looks pretty much like this self-styled vigilante can cancel Christmas…

REVIEW: Lizzie Borden, Great Chops
PlayhouseSquare 14th Street Theatre 3/30/12

New England turned bloody one hot summer in August 1892 when someone viciously hacked Mr. Borden and his second wife to death.

Many suspected his daughter Lizzie did it, but they couldn’t pin it on her so she went free — if you can call “free” being remembered forever in a jump-rope rhyme as the gal who took an axe and “gave her mother forty whacks and when she saw what she had done, gave her father forty-one…”

In case you haven’t heard the “plan” is called the “Jackson Plan” by the Plain Dealer, broadcast and other media. Truth distorters…

ROLDO: Teachers Should Be Able to Part-time in Florida & California Under Jackson’s Management Policy Hmmmmmm, I know an awful lot of dedicated hard working firemen to think it as widespread as you seem to indicate. MANSFIELD: Walking While Black While I won’t be surprised if you are right Mr. Frazier, yesterday a report came out that Martin actually attacked Zimmerman…
Read the comment from Cindy Meyers here

Cindy, I would hardly call a male who is being followed as the attacker. It looks to me that it was Trayvon Martin who was defending himself and stood his ground after being unable to lose his pursuer, while the cowardly Zimmerman fired his weapon…
Read the comment from Wayne Kuznar here

The Trayvon Martin killing again exposes a basic fault line in American culture. Not the situational barrier between black and white, but the recurring rupture that separates those who are consistently outraged by injustice and those who will grasp any fantasy to keep from seeing ugly truths about the society that gives them comfort…

Cindy, the so-called “reports” that Martin “attacked” Zimmerman are not “reports,” but gossip being leaked by his supporters…
