Grog Shop Show Features Young Blues Phenom, Local Blues Band & Nashville Blue-Collar Rockers

Fri 9/20 @ 9PM

“You don’t see too many kids into blues music,” says 20-year-old guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram who released his debut album Kingfish this past May on premiere blues label Alligator.

That’s an understatement. Despite the clockwork emergence of the latest “12 year old blues guitar virtuoso” or “10-year-old blues guitar virtuoso” or “5-year-old blues guitar viruoso” (Ingram first performed at age 11), you’ll find most of the folks at a blues concert are over 50. But this young native of blues birthplace Clarksdale, Mississippi picked up something in the soil of his hometown and became a student of Delta blues. ““I do think I have an old soul, that I’ve been here before,” he says in his bio. “I’m moving forward with one foot in the past.”

Ingram will be hitting the Grog Shop on his Fish Grease: A Juke Joint Tour, joined by real “old soul” Alan Greene, who has been playing blues around Cleveland of nearly 50 years. The Alan Greene Band will be joined by another opener with a Cleveland connection: the Cerny Brothers. Nashville-based Bob and Scott Cerny, originally from rural Illinois, have an anthemic blue-collar Springsteen-like sound. They recently signed with the reactivated Cleveland International Records, helmed by founder Steve Popovich’s son, Steve Jr.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $23 at the door.
