Some, such as oregano, thyme, sage and chives, you can plant and forget about; they’ll come back every year. Some, such as basil, dill and parsley, easy to grow from seed. And many came be taken in and overwintered in the house, providing burst of scent and healthy flavor for your foods all year long. They’re perfect for inexperiences gardeners.

One way to learn more about how to grow and use herbs is to go to the Western Reserve Herb Society’s annual herb fair at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, where the organization maintains its extensive outdoor herb garden. There you’ll find herb-related items for sale including dried herbs, teas, potpourris, cards, herb-infused jellies, wreaths and dried arrangements, gardening books and more. There will also be talks about herb growing, workshops and experts on hand to answer your questions. You’ll also get to tour the herb garden and learn about it form the people who plant it.

It’s free with regular CBG admission — $12 for adults, $8 for kids 3-12.
