ChamberFest Cleveland Opens Its 8th Season

Thu 6/13-Sat 6/29

ChamberFest Cleveland, an idea hatched by retired Cleveland Orchestra principal clarinetist Franklin Graham and his violinist daughter Diana Cohen, concertmaster of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, moves into its eighth season, dubbed “Under the Influence.”

It features ten events spanning slightly more than two weeks, opening with a concert Thu 6/13 @ 7:30pm, featuring the Cohens and seven other musicians, performing music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Krzysztof Penderecki, Heinz Holliger and Robert Schumann that revealed their key influences. A wine and hors d’oeuvres reception follows the concert at the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Mixon Hall.

Unlike the earliest ChamberFests, when part of the goal was to bring music to alternative venues, most of the concerts take place at CIM, with two others taking place in traditional venues within a block: CWRU’s Harness Chapel and the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium. One takes place at the Wine Spot in Cleveland Heights where violinist Alexi Kenney will perform an evening of music by Bach contrasted with contemporary pieces.

Tickets for the Kenney concert are $30, $25 for young adults, $10 for students. All other concerts are $40, $35, $15. Go here for a full schedule and ticket information.
