University Circle’s Wade Oval Wednesdays Launch This Week with Wesley Bright & the Honeytones

Wed 6/13-Wed 8/22

One of the most popular and well-attended of northeast Ohio’s many summer outdoor concert series is Wade Oval Wednesdays, taking place on the sweeping green space in University Circle that’s surrounded by the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and the Cleveland Botanical Garden.

There for ten Wednesdays, from 6/13 through 8/22, some of the best local bands play reggae, salsa, soul, funk, rock, swing, jazz, rockabilly and blues — most of it not standard cover tunes either. In addition to live music from 6-9pm, the oval is crowded with food vendors, information booths from organizations and government agencies, and games and activities for kids. Two nights also feature movies @ 9pm after the band wraps up, and the blockbuster June 27 evening with Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band also includes fireworks following the concert.

It all begins this week with Akron’s Wesley Bright & the Honeytones, featuring vocalist Brett Wesley, playing old-school 60s-style soul with a horn section. Bring your chairs, blankets and picnic basket — and come early. It gets crowded!
