Creative Motion

To stay creative, stay in motion. Literally, not figuratively.

Like Rebecca Leuszler, who’s moving ahead with the 1st annual Cleveland Dance Festival. SPACES is on the move westward, but not before one final party on Superior Viaduct. Keep the kids moving with Pinocchio by Magical Theatre Co. at the Akron Civic. And you won’t rest circulating among five wineries at the annual Turkey Trot in Grand River Valley. The Akron Symphony celebrates 100 years of the CVNP with a sound and light show at EJ, plus Joseph FireCrow on Native American flute. Mansfield spills tears of pride witnessing a Cleveland baseball legend in motion.

Megan Young wants you to grapple with a digital wrestler to encourage you to vote, Akron-based Dunamis Theatre Co. jumps genres & media, the Speedbumps are a fun ride at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall, do the Hullabalo at the Nash in Slavic Village with Valerie Mayen and hundreds of your best-dressed friends, and make your voice heard at the election watch party at Prosperity. Wondering which way to go? Our endorsement roundup can help. Don’t stop. –Thomas Mulready

Have you voted yet? Election Day is Tue 11/8, but you can vote at your board of elections every day between now and then to get it out of the way. Hours are Wed 11/2-Fri 11/4 @ 8AM-7PM; Sat 11/5 @ 8AM-4PM, Sun 11/6 @ 1-5PM and Mon 11/7 @ 8AM-2PM. On Tue 11/8 your local polling place is open from 6:30AM-7:30PM.

Election Day is Tue 11/8, and, as much as you’ve heard it before, and as much as we’re looking forward to this particular election season being over, this particular election is one of the most important in recent times. Not only will we be electing a non-incumbent president who could serve for the next eight years, the Senate is also poised to switch to a Democratic majority, with all the implications of legislation and Supreme Court justice appointments hanging in the balance.

And the choices couldn’t be more stark. We believe the Republican candidate is so ill-suited for the job that we’ve endorsed Hillary Clinton not once, but an unprecedented twice, and we’ve published an editorial by CoolCleveland commentator Mansfield Frazier entitled “Why I’m Voting For Hillary.” You may have your own reasons.

Just as importantly, the election of Ted Strickland as Ohio Senator could determine the balance of power in the U.S. Congress and the Supreme Court. If you’re a Cleveland resident, we encourage a YES vote for Issue 108 in support of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

SPACES’ annual benefit party is a little bittersweet this year. Patrons will be taking a last look around the space on Superior Viaduct where so much creativity has gone down, but celebrating the move up the hill to Hingetown where its new space opens in January.

Appropriately, this year’s theme is “Great Expectations: Westward Ho!” and partygoers will fete the impending move by eating, drinking, dancing and bidding on art. John Benson gets the lowdown from SPACES’ Martha Loughridge. Sat 11/5.

Game 5 of the 1948 Fall Classic produced a racial first: Satchel Paige came into the game for the Cleveland Indians, becoming the first black pitcher to take the mound in World Series history – and I was in the house to witness it…

* No, the Sky Isn’t Going to Fall I’ve always had faith in the American electorate, even as Trump supporters seemingly were multiplying like rabbits, albeit demented rabbits with rabies. And yes, I too am shocked, dismayed and sickened…
