BAYarts Shows New Work by Justin Brennan and Jo Ann Giovannitti Rencz

Fri 1/11 @ 7-9PM

BAYarts kicks off the year in its galleries this week with a pair of new shows.

Justin Brennan, whose work will go on view in the Sullivan Family Gallery, has gotten a lot of attention in the last few years, with significant shows and reviews for his semi-abstract paintings, primarily of partially obscured faces. Although many lack distinct features and paint has rendered their expressions unreadable, they seem to ooze emotions. In his new work at BAYarts, titled Ego, he’s using this style of portraiture to explore his own psychological landscape.

In the Diane Boldman Education Gallery, Jo Ann Giovannitti Rencz’s Faithlegs: Art and History Examined atomizes Biblical history, drawing the pices back together with swathes of brightly colored paint.

Both open with a reception Fri /11 @ 7-9pm, and run through Sat 2/2.
