Virtually anyone who has gone to 78th Street Studios’ Third Friday has probably seen painter Eileen Dorsey at work. She’s in the first of the string of small rooms that line the south side of the first floor’s large event space. On Third Fridays, her studio door is always open, and she’s almost always painting, hard at work on one of her evocative landscapes. The affable artist is always open to talking about what she’s working on too.
For September’s Third Friday Art walk, she’s celebrating her ten years of working at 78th Street Studios and how her work has evolved in that time. For 10 x 10, she’s created 10 x 10 inch paintings in the style of her work each of the past ten years. (You can follow her evolution in more depth in the paintings posted on her website).
In addition, a book of her work, called Eileen Dorsey: Walks Through Wilderness, has been published. It’s a 60-page monograph with a selection of her paintings from 2010-2017, a list of her exhibitions, and two essays on her work.
