Volunteers Needed for Cleanups at Big Creek and Rocky River Creek

Sat 6/2 @ 9AM-noon

This is a great time of year for the environmentally minded outdoors lover who wants to pitch in to upgrade our surroundings.

Yes, there’s another chance to pick up trash today at the 20th annual Big Creek Watershed Clean Up, sponsored by the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District and Big Creek Connects. They’re looking for volunteers to collect trash from the side of the stream, while learning more about the role streams play, what threatens their health and what can be done to address those threats.

Volunteers should meet at 8:45am at Brookfield Park – Brookfield Ave., (between Bellaire and W. 130th), the Brooklyn City Fire Department (8400 Memphis Ave) or the Snow Road Picnic Area along Big Creek Parkway. Wear sturdy shoes or boots; long sleeves and pants are recommended. Trash bags and work gloves will be provided, and there will be refreshments as well.

At the same time, another group will be meeting at the Scenic Park Picnic Area in the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation, to pick up trash on the lower 10-12 miles of the Rocky River. Lunch will be provided following the clean up. Pre-registration is required for groups.
