SUMMARY:The Musical Theater Project Explores the Legacy of the Musical "Car
 ousel"
DESCRIPTION:\nSun 6/14 @ 3PM\nThe mid 1940s were the years when the Broadwa
y musical as we know it today was just establishing the standards for the
genre. Oklahoma\, often considered the first “modern” music\, debuting
in 1943. And not too far behind it was Carousel\, also written by the tea
m of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II\, which hit Broadway in Apri
l 1945. Songs like “If I Loved You” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone
” are still standards\, but there was much more about the show which was
innovative and still influential today. The troubled central relationship
\, intense for its time\, foretold the relationships driving modern musica
ls such as Spring Awakening and Rent.\nThe Musical Theater Project’s nex
t presentation in its The Song Is You series is called “Walk On: The Pow
er of Carousel.” TMTP’s founding artistic director Bill Rudman and ass
ociate artistic director Nancy Meier will host an in-depth look at what ma
de this musical so powerful and influential.  They’ll be joined by a ca
st of actor/singers\, a chorus and an instrumental ensemble to share the s
tory and music and the story behind the story and the music.\nThe program
takes place at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium. Go here
  for tickets.\nwalk-on-the-power-of-carousel/\n[mappress mapid="3131"]
