DESCRIPTION:\nFri 4/17@ 5-9PM\nTwo northeast Ohio who work in different med
 iums and extremely different styles will be share the wall space at 78thSt
 reet Studios’ expansive Gallery 215.\nThe show\, called Emergence\, feat
 ures work by painter Tessa LeBaron and photographer Johnny Joo. It takes i
 ts theme from a quote from Ghanian inspirational writers Lailah Gifty Akit
 a: "Change does not take place easily but through painful emergence.”\nT
 heir artists statement asserts that “Emergence is the process of coming 
 into view or becoming exposed after being concealed\, the process of comin
 g into being\, or of becoming important or prominent.” Their collaborati
 ve body of work explores that theme in photography\, painting and stop-mot
 ion video\, which “reflects the inner turmoil and emotional landscape of
  oneself emerging out of the ebb and flow of depression.” LeBaron’s ac
 rylic paintings and stop-motion videos\, and Joo’s urban decay photograp
 hy focus on that theme and its ramifications.\nLeBaron is a graphic design
 er\, muralist and painter whose ornate\, colorful and often nature-based a
 rt is well-known in the community. She has hosted events and curated shows
  at Negative Space gallery. Joo is known for his photos of abandoned place
 s\, often give a surrealistic spin\; he has published 12books of his work.
  While the two have previously done shows together\, this is their first j
 oint show in seven years.\n\nThe show opens with a reception during Third 
 Friday\, April 17\, from 5-9pm and will be on view through June 19.\n[mapp
