DESCRIPTION:\n\nSat 7/25 @ 5-7PM\nAbattoir Gallery\, whose main location is
  at the Hildebrandt Provisions Building\, in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood
 \, has an auxiliary space in Ohio City’s Hingetown\, called Abattoir at 
 the Quarter\, where it’s placed art for long runs.\nThis weekend\, it wi
 ll be presenting a new installation there\, conceived and executed by two 
 “image-based digital artists\,” Columbus-based Clare Gatto and Detroit
 -based Kara Güt\, who work as a team in creating “digital lens-based me
 dia both based in the Midwest.”\nThe piece at Abattoir is called\, Porp
 hyry Gates\, a culmination of an earlier installation called Magic Circle
 \, presented last year in Detroit.\n“While world building is the core in
 terest\, this manifestation consisting of commercial light boxes\, vinyl m
 urals\, photographs and photogravures offers a different experience visual
 ly and philosophically into a specific fabricated environment\,” the pre
 ss release tells us ellipically “The exhibition takes its title from por
 phyry\; an igneous stone made of crystals embedded within a fine-grained m
 atrix. This composite structure mirrors the construction of the exhibition
 's portals and wall vinyl\, which are generated through photogrammetry by 
 assembling many photographs into a three-dimensional landscape before comp
 ressing it into a flattened image.”\nThey say these installations are in
 spired by fantasy role-play video game design\, based on their own fantasy
  world called "The Cloud of Unknowing\," with. each installation represent
 ing another level of the game.\nThe installation opens with a free\, publi
 c reception Saturday July 25\, and will be on view through November 2026.\
