 to the Local Music Scene
DESCRIPTION:\nMon 10/20 @ 6-9PM\nCleveland Rocks: Past Present Future\, the
  nonprofit founded by Beachland Ballroom co-owner Cindy Barber to provide 
 services and education to help musicians and bands advance their career\, 
 has been hosting a series of Monday night Musicians Workshops.\nGenerally\
 , they cover nuts-and-bolts topics such as how to book your band\, how to 
 collect your money from performance rights organizations\, or what type of
  mic works best for you. This month’s workshop will be a little differen
 ce and very timely in light of the recent obliteration by ideastream publi
 c broadcasting of a nearly 50-year-old college radio station WCSB-FM 89.3 
 that served as a pillar of the local music scene.\nThe topic is “The Imp
 ortance of College and Community Radio\,” in which the panelists will en
 lighten the audience on the essential role college radio plays in the loca
 l music ecostructure: how they help local and underground bands find an au
 dience for their music and direct audiences the to local music venues that
  provide the initial step in many successful bands’ careers.\nSpeaking i
 nclude former WCSB (now calling themselves XCSB) general manager Alison Bo
 mgarner\, XCSB’s Liam Main\, Jasen Sokol from John Caroll Radio station 
 WJCU-FM 88.7 and Rachel Hunt from Case Western Reserve radio station WRUW 
 FM 91. (She also works in marketing and operation at the Grog Shop so she 
 can provide insight into how clubs and college radio work in tandem to lif
 t up the local music scene.)\nThe panel discussions each month are followe
 d by the 2x4 songwriter showcase\, featuring four songwriters or bands per
 forming two songs. This month they include Nicole Otero\, Jessica Jonczyk\
 , Moon Cactus and one TBA.\nThe event\, which takes place at the Cleveland
  Rocks Shop in the Waterloo Arts District\, is free and open to all. Regis
