DESCRIPTION:\nThu 4/30 @ 7PM\nCraig Matis\, who established a reputation fo
 r his multimedia shows with his band Uzizi back in the 80s\, has never sto
 pped being creative.\nIn collaboration with Treva Offutt\, he’s complete
 d a full-length musical and radio play called John Brown: The Dulcimer Dia
 ries about early 19th-century abolitionist John Brown who was executed in 
 1859 for inciting a slave rebellion.\nHe’ll be presenting musical select
 ions from the play with nine singers and a small band\, paying tribute to 
 the abolitionists who created a climate that led to the end of slavery in 
 the 1860s. It takes place at the Sixty6 at the Midtown Collaboration Cente
 r. Come early because starting at 5pm in the building’s upper floor you 
 can see a display of Matis’s illustrations from the project\, described 
 as “a visual installation exploring the legacy of slavery\, political di
 vision\, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.”\nThe event is free. Get mo
