SUMMARY:Local String Quartet Takes Listeners on a World-Wide Musical Journe
 y at Dunham Tavern
DESCRIPTION:\nSun 2/8 @ 3PM\nHeights Arts’ Close Encounters concert serie
s take place in intimate venues (including sometimes private homes) giving
music lovers the opportunity to get really “up close and personal” wi
th small ensembles of musicians.\nThe next concert\, however\, will take p
lace at Dunham Tavern\, and it will feature a new chamber music group\, a
foursome called the Taplin Quarter. It features Katherine Bormann and Zhan
Sho on violins\, Gareth Zehngut on viola and Martha Baldwin on cello\, al
l members of the Cleveland Orchestra (as is Dane Johansen who is the curat
or of the series and often draws on his orchestra mates to perform).\nThe
Taplin Quartet’s program is called From East to West and will feature an
intriguing array of different music\, ranging from pieces you likely know
  — “Waltzing Matilda” (often called the “Australian national anthe
m” and “Clair de Lune” — to “Gobi Gloria” by contemporary Chin
ese composer Lei Lang inspired by Mongolian music in the first half. After
intermission they’ll play Claude Debissy’s String Quartet in G Minor\
, Op. 10\, and wrap up with an arrangement of a traditional Chinese song.
 It’s quite a journey!\nGet your tickets here.\n[mappress mapid="2254"]
