DESCRIPTION:\nFri 1/16 @ 5-8PM\nHeights Arts kicks off the 2026 season in i
 ts main gallery with a show guaranteed to push back against the cold.\nCon
 sider Fires\, curated by multimedia artist/educator Gina Washington\, look
 s at the destructive and constructive powers of flame. “Fire consumes. F
 ire cleanses. Fire transforms\,” says the show’s promotion. “It is d
 estruction and renewal\, warmth and warning\, a flickering ember\, and an 
 unstoppable blaze. It is the flame of revolution\, the heat of creation\, 
 the smoldering tension before ignition. It is both the light that guides a
 nd the force that devours. In this exhibition\, we do not fear fire—we i
 nvoke it.”\nThe show includes pieces in a variety of mediums by artists 
 Chester Hopkins-Bey\, Tanya Kaiser\, Kole Robinson Brooks\, Yasmeen Kwan\,
  Aja Joi Grant\, James Negron\, Jeanetta Ho\, Mario Tripp\, Ellis Walker\,
  Falon Walker\, McKinley Wiley\, Lolita Wilson\, and Leah Aki Wood. Most o
 f them blend mediums\, drawing on photography\, ceramics\, sculpture\, ins
 tallation\, digital media\, printmaking\, fiber art and even painting!\nTh
 e work of self-taught artist Josh Chefitz\, exploring memory and reconstru
 ction\, will be featured in the Spotlight Gallery. His mixed media\, colla
 ge-like work involves ink\, gel and pen drawings on handmade paper which h
 e cuts apart and layers.\n The shows open with a reception on Friday Janu
 ary 16\, and will be on view through March 15. On Thursday February 19 @ 7
 pm\, the gallery hosts its Ekphastacy evening\, when the artists will join
  four local poets for an evening of poetry performance inspired by the wor
