 ’s 250th anniversary this year — but it should bring about some intere
 sting programming.\nFor instance\, this week\, the Cleveland State Univers
 ity Symphonic Orchestra is presenting a concert called An American Canvas\
 , featuring an evening of work by American composers — and that one pred
 ictable “American” piece by a non-American composer inspired by his ti
 me in the U.S. (You know we mean Antonín Dvořák’s 1893 Symphony No. 9
  aka New World Symphony.\nThat piece will conclude a program that also inc
 ludes another staple of classical Americana programs\, Aaron Copland’s F
 anfare for the Common Man\; two pieces by long-neglected\, early 20th-cent
 ry African American composers now enjoying renewed attention: Florence Pri
 ce’s Andante Moderato and William Grant Still’s “Mother and Child\,
 ” plus Mexican composer Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No. 2.\nStudent conduc
 tors Elyse Burras and Kayla Selan will join director Lorenzo Lopez on the 
 podium. The concert takes place at CSU’s Waetjen Auditorium. It’s free
