SUMMARY:Bestselling Local Author Thrity Umrigar Introduces Her 10th Novel a
 t Parma-Snow Library
DESCRIPTION:\n\nThu 1/29 @ 7PM\nAuthor Thrity Umrigar is “local” — sh
e lives in the Cleveland area and is a professor of English at Case Wester
n Reserve University. She came to this country from India at the age of 21
and got her graduate degrees from The Ohio State University and Kent Stat
 e University. So at this point\, she’s virtually a native Ohioan.\nBut h
er work has been all over the world. She’s written nine novels\, a memoi
r and some picture books. She’s won awards for her works\, many of which
have been best sellers. Her books have been published in nearly two dozen
countries and translated into other languages.\nNow she’s releasing her
tenth novel called Missing Sam. Initially its plot sounds a little cliche
d: a married couple\, Sam and Aliya\, gets into an intense argument one ni
ght\, and the next morning\, one of them goes out for a morning run and ne
ver comes back. We’ve all heard the “missing partner” story. But the
re’s a twist here. When Aliya reports her wife missing\, things become s
trained when\, as the gay daughter of Muslim immigrants\, she’s hemmed i
n by expectations and judgments that make it difficult for her to see her
options clearly.\nUmrigar will talk about the new book at the Cuyahoga Cou
nty Public Library’s Parma-Snow Branch in conversation with former Plain
Dealer book editor (remember when they had those?) Karen Long. Registrati
on is free\, but $30 VIP tickets get you a copy of the book\, VIP seating
and signing line priority.\nGo here to register or buy tickets. More books
with be available for purchase courtesy of Loganberry Books.\n[mappress m
