SUMMARY:Bassoon Trio and Electronic Experimentalist Perform CUSP Concert
DESCRIPTION:\nFri 3/21 @ 8PM\nCleveland Uncommon Sound Project’s mission 
 is to present the type of boundary-breaking music you won’t typically he
 ar in a club or concert hall\, most of it exploratory and improvisational.
 \nYou won’t typically hear a trio of bassoon players (in fact\, outside 
 of a classical music concert\, it’s rare to hear a bassoon player at all
 ) but Katherine Young\, Dana Jessen\, and Ben Roidl-Ward\, who comprise th
 e Tendril Trio all play that instrument. They’ve earned international at
 tention for their use of bassoon in a way that’s experimental\, adding e
 lectronic elements. For the CUSP concert they’ll perform Altarpiece H. a
 f K. by composer/pianist Eric Wubbels\, described as “a study in the aco
 ustics of complex sounds” and “a 25-minute wave of saturated resonance
 \,” inspired by the abstract visual language of early 20th-century Swedi
 sh artist Hilma af Klint.\nAlso on the bill is Oberlin graduate Ryan Carte
 r who writes music for instruments\, voices\, and computers\, combining tr
 aditional instruments with new technologies\, as this type of music often 
 does to expand its sonic potential as much as possible. His music has been
  commissioned by many organizations\, presenters and musicians and he’s 
 extensively explored interactive music for mobile devices. He’s the foun
 der of Headless Monkey Attack which performs live electronic music synthes
 ized in real time from code that responds to input from a video game contr
 oller.\nThe concert takes place at Calicchia Gallery Studio (formerly Conv
 ivium 33). Admission is $15 but they emphasize that no one will be turned
