Journalist, Filmmaker & Undocumented Immigrant Jose Antonio Vargas Speaks at the Cleveland Library

Sat 10/13 @ 2PM

Jose Antonio Vargas is a filmmaker and journalist, whose signature topic is the rights of immigrants in America, especially those who are undocumented. Given the deliberate cruelty of our current administration, fueled by willful ignorance and hostility toward “the stranger,” his voice is a valuable one.

Writing for the Washington Post, he was part of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team that covered the Virginia Tech shootings. He later became a reporter for Huffington Pot, and produced the autobiographical film Documented: a film by an undocumented American. In 2011, he founded Define America to advocate for such issues as the DREAM Act to provide a path to legal status for those like himself. Because, yes, he’s got skin in the game: a native of the Philippines, he came to the U.S. as a child, without documentation.

He’ll be speaking at the Cleveland Public Library’s downtown branch in the Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium as part of its Writers & Readers series. The event is free and open to all, but registration is advised. Go here.
