PHOTOSTREAM: Pride in the CLE/Cleveland Pride @Public Square by Anastasia Pantsios

Sat 6/2

This year’s Pride was blessed with perfect weather as the parade stepped off at noon to celebrate the first combined Pride in the CLE/Cleveland Pride event. (For those who don’t know the history, Pride in the CLE was forced in 2016 when the long-running Cleveland Pride cancelled at the last minute. Last year, there were two Pride celebrations, and this year, everyone came together).

Marchers from local organizations, business, churches and affinity groups strolled from E. 17th and Lakeside to the festival at Public Square, waving signs and rainbow flags. At the site, there was food, drink, booths from organizations and lots of people-watching. The North Coast Men’s Chorus and Windsong Feminist Chorus kicked things off, singing The Star-Spangled Banner, after which local politicians offered brief greetings (Mayor Frank Jackson spoke for 29 seconds). Later on, a bunch of drag queens performed, eliciting whoops and hollers from the heavily female crowd pressed up against the stage.
