Sat 1/12-Sun 2/10
An Iliad, the 2013 stage play by Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare, condenses the familiar Homer epic into a one long act, with its action related by a single actor as the character of “The Poet,” who, accompanied by a musician, tells the stories Hector and Achilles as a means of conveying a tale that encompasses man’s millennia-long affinity for revenge, violence and destruction.
The Cleveland Play House is staging the show in its Outcalt Theatre with co-director Tarah Flanagan as The Poet, an interesting twist for a show that is drenched in masculine fury and power. It opens Sat 1/12 and runs through Sun 2/10.
