Cleveland Play House Closes Virtual Season with a Dark Comedic One Act

Sat 5/22-Wed 5/26

Idris Goodwin’s dark, comedic one-act play Blackademics is described as a “sharp, surreal satire about race and elitism.” As its title suggests, it’s set in the world of academia, and follows the paths of a pair of women college professors as they vie for superior position.

Originally produced in Chicago in 2013, it will now become Goodwin’s latest play to be produced by the Cleveland Play House where his How We Got On was performed in 2014, followed by Jacked! in 2019. It features a cast of northeast Ohio performers: Mariah Burks, Colleen Longshaw and Lisa Marie Schueller.

Unlike Goodwin’s previous CPH productions, this one will be viewable only virtually, the final production of its all-virtual 2020-2021 season. It’ll debut Saturday May 22 and be available for streaming through Wednesday May 26. Ticket buyers can also tune in to a live roundtable discussion featuring director Ansley Valentine on Zoom, Monday May 24. For tickets go to clevelandplayhouse.com.
