Collective

Working together, this town is turning things around. Like a bicycle wheel.

As high profile projects suck up the limelight, we’re focused on the results of collaborative efforts closer to the grass roots: the daunting petri dish known as the Davenport Collective; the expanding and audacious mural museum on the outdoor walls in Lakewood; the Cleveland Asian Fest, in its 3rd year and already a major event; a Sustainable Communities Consortium; an Independent Film Festival; a Creative Voices Summit; two young prodigies in Akron; even a weed walking tour.

Bike For Beck, Hessler Street Fair, Pajama Party Night Ride on the Towpath Trail, Pop-Up Pearl in Old Brooklyn… I’m sorry folks, you’re gonna have some tough choices this week.

Meanwhile, resurgence is causing a ripple effect: Mansfield bemoans the loss of bail bondsmen and Roldo reminds us that for every improvement for some, others are getting pushed, squeezed and cleansed. Hmmm, got some room in that collaborative for a few of the forgotten?

But for now it appears we’ve stopped waiting for the silver bullet. Join the collective. –Thomas Mulready

There are many histories of Cleveland. Not just one history of the city. No history that would tell us, “This is the way it was.”

There are many ways to report history. It could be from the view of different people. Different movements. Different economics. Different heroes. Different villains. Different reasons why the city went this way or that way…
