“Close Encounters” Screens After Dark in Downtown Akron Cemetery

Sat 9/21 @ 6PM

The Great Meadow of the Glendale Cemetery near downtown Akron is the location for a free outdoor screening of the 1977 film Stephen Spielberg Close Encounters of the Third Kind presented by the organization Free Akron Outdoor Movies, now in their 8th year of doing pop-up film screenings. Seeing this film about making contact with people from distant space should take on added resonance under the stars.

Gates open at 6pm for trolley service, food trucks, picnicking and family-friendly “alien activities.” There’s a costume parade at 7:30 which people are invited to join by coming in sci-fi costumes. The film, shown on a giant inflatable screen, starts at 8pm. Bring lawn chairs, blankets or flashlights, but no pets are allowed. In case of rain, the screening will happen on Sun 9/22 at the same time.
