The eight-year-old Blue Sky Folk Festival moved from May to September, and this year it’s moved its date again to late August. But it’s the same friendly, low-key, you-can-all-join-in sort of event it’s always been.

Taking place at the East Shore Unitarian Universalist Church in Kirtland, the event brings together a lineup of local acts for performances, jam sessions and workshops. Performers include the Bill Lestock Trio, which specializes in blues grass and old-time music; singer/songwriter Vicki Chew and her band; bluesy alt country ensemble Rachel Brown & the Beatnik Playboys; singer/songwriter J. Scott Franklin; blues guitarist Michael Bay; Detroit folksinger Matt Watroba; and student group the Benjamin Franklin Strings. There’ll also be kids activities and a playground to keep them engaged.

Admission is $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Kids 12 and under are free. If you bring an instrument to jam, you get $3 off. There’ll be food and beverages including wine and beer available for purchase.
