It’s starting to look like the warm weather is here to stay, as it usually does this time of year. And for most Clevelanders the official start to summer is the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, when it’s time to get outside as much as possible.

It’s also the time when the festivals start coming fast and furious. No matter what you like – music, sports, art, theater, food – there’s something you’ll enjoy. And you’re going to have to pick and choose; you can’t do it all. Here’s our annual guide to summer fun, as complete as we could make it. Let us know if we missed anything!

What’s this whole roller derby thing about? Back in its 40s/50s heyday, it may have been a kissing’ cousin to pro wrestling. But in its revival of the last decade, it’s dropped much of the heroes & villains staginess to make it clear that it’s a real sport.

The three teams that comprise the Burning River Roller Derby start their season this week at Euclid’s CE Orr Rink. To learn who they are and what it takes to skate with them, our John Benson chatted with skater/p.r. person Allie Mackerty aka ChewRockYa. OK, a little of the staginess remains. Sat 5/27.

Don’t miss out on the biggest content marketing event ever!

It’s hard to keep up with what’s happening in Cleveland’s burgeoning Ohio City neighborhood, with new attractions such as the Market Garden Brewery production facility and SPACES’ new galleries, joining venerable favorites like the West Side Market. But when was the last time you took a leisurely afternoon stroll to see what’s new – and old?

Our reporter Claudia Taller did just that. Join her as she takes in the sights, sounds and smells of this ‘hood. And while she’s known as the wine maven, she lingered a bit too long at the Market Garden tasting room, enjoying their craft beers, to see everything she hoped to get to. Maybe another day …

For more than 150 years, women have said so much about their lives and their personalities through their clothes. That’s the premise behind WOW Factor, which will be on view at the Western Reserve Historical Society for the next year.

The Cleveland Botanical Garden already provides a bunch of fun ways to explore the natural world. But this summer, a special exhibit called Nature Connects: Art With LEGO Bricks will enhance the regular offerings, with 13 LEGO sculptures scattered around the grounds and the building, and related hands-on activities such as a chance to create your own LEGO sculpture and a live insect scavenger hunt. Sat 5/27-Sun 8/27.
