Rebirth Brass Band Carries the Sound of New Orleans Into the Beachland

Tue 6/19 @ 8:30PM

The most distinctively New Orleans sound is that of the brass band. Its bright brass and insistent percussion are the hallmark of NOLA street parades of all types.

Many of the musicians in New Orleans brass bands are part-timers with other jobs, who might show up for jazz funeral second lines and other special occasions. But the city also has its noted professional bands, featuring some of the hottest jazz musicians anywhere. One of the best known is the Rebirth Brass Band, who formed in 1983 and have been global ambassadors for the genre, with many tours, more than a dzoen albums and appearances on TV shows such as Treme.

When they’re not touring, Rebirth is known for their red-hot late-night Tuesday shows at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans’ uptown neighborhood. But THIS Tuesday they’ll be replicating that atmosphere right here in Cleveland at the Beachland Ballroom with horn-driven Nashville soul band DeRobert & the Half-Truths opening. Expect to move your body, which happens to be the title of their 2014 album.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $22 at the door.
