Four Local Performers Share Music & Stories in “Songwriters in the Round” at Nighttown

Sun 3/10 @ 7PM

Songwriters in the Round evenings offer the chance to get intimate with songwriters and their work, as they share the stage and their stories with other songwriters. It’s often the interaction, as the writer/performers sit onstage together, pass around the spotlight and jump in to offer vocals and instrumental support to the other participants, that make these performances special.

Four local songwriters will perform their own material and talk about what inspired them at Nighttown. Charlie Mosbrook is a well-known lynchpin of the local singer-songwriter scene who has a 25-year catalog of his own material, has hosted many open mic nights and heads local acoustic music nonprofit Folknet. Amanda Walsh and Rick Szekelyi perform acoustic cover tunes together as Bridgeport Junction but the real love for each of them is doing their own tunes. Walsh released her first album of her own music, called Magic Is Real, last year.

The final member of the quartet is guitarist Richard Shack, who was a member of the James Gang and founder of the Case of E.T. Hooley in the late 1960s and 1970s. He’s more recently focused on his own songwriting, in a style described as “Americana with a particular bent towards the reminiscent soul of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee.”

Admission is $20.  It’s a benefit show for local organization Roots of American Music which uses traditional American music as an educational tool for underserved communities.
