Cleveland Cello Society Benefit Features Nature-Inspired Cello Music

Fri 1/11 @ 7PM

Cello fans will be able to enjoy a musical feast and support the promotion of their favorite instrument when the Cleveland Cello Society holds its annual fundraiser, i Cellisti, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights.

This year’s theme is “Of Nature,” with the music performed being inspired by the natural world. Oberlin cello professor Darrett Adkins, the Oberlin College Choir and conductor Gregory Ristow will perform Soviet composer Sofia Gubaidulina’s “Canticle of the Sun.” Members of Ensemble 207, students of Cleveland Orchestra Principal Cellist Mark Kosower, will play contemporary Venezuelan composer Paul Desenne’s cello quartet GlassBamboo Frog Consort. And, in an awesome display of sound-surround cello power, a 40-cello ensemble will take on John Luther Adams’ Sky with Four Suns and Sky with Four Moon, inspired by the landscape of Alaska, his longtime home.

General admission is a $25 donation; $10 for students. All proceeds benefit Cleveland Cello Society’s scholarship program to encourage the next generation of cellists.
