Music for Miles Concert at Waterloo Arts Features Composer/Musician Conversations

Sun 4/14 @ 4PM

Waterloo Arts District pioneer Nan Kennedy founded the Music for Miles series of free, casual, family-oriented classical music concerts eight years ago to honor her late husband Miles Kennedy. They take place at Waterloo Arts, an institution he founded and funded.

Nan writes, “Miles loved classical music — preferably by Mozart, but all classical music was welcome — and the neighborhood, so bringing classical music into the neighborhood felt right.

The April concert is called “Anatomy of a Phrase: a Conversation Between Player and Composer.” In it, pianist Randall Fusco will play several versions of composer Steve Stanziano’s “Four Miniatures for Solo Piano.” On other pieces — mostly works by currently working composers — flutist Sean Gabriel and percussionists Mell Csicsila and Andrew Pongracz will join the musical conversation. The concerts are informal; it’s OK to come and go, or to take restless children outside. And the artists are accessible during intermission and after the concert for questions and conversation.
