Jazz Trumpeter Dominick Farinacci’s “Modern Warrior” Returns to the Ohio Theatre

Sat 10/6 @ 7:30PM

Jazz trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, a Cleveland native, has traveled a long way since he was part of the Tri-C high school jazz program where he met Wynton Marsalis who recommended him to be part of the Juilliard School’s first Jazz Studies class.

Now based in New York, he’s always working on new collaborations, new projects, new musical ideas. But he’s frequently back in Cleveland, sharing his knowledge, his experience and his latest projects.

Recently, he collaborated with Staff Sergeant Jaymes Poling, a Warren, Ohio veteran on a project called Modern Warrior. It draws from Poling’s experiences during his three tours of duty in Afghanistan and his return to civilian life to explore the cost of war and the challenge of transitioning from one life to another. The goal of the Modern Warrior initiative is to connect civilians and veterans and promote understanding between the two via live performances, workshops, informative panel discussions and sharing veteran stories.

Poling narrates the autobiographical production, which will be performed at Playhouse Square’s Ohio Theatre, while Farinacci leads the band and guest vocalists. Tickets are $23.30 in advance, $30-$35 at the door.
