G.A.R. Hall Hosts Release Party for Hey Mavis CD About Ohio & Erie Canal

Sat 10/13 @ 8PM

Akron-based Hey Mavis, fronted by the husband/wife team of violinist Ed Caner and vocalist/songwriter/banjo and guitar player Laurie Caner, is one of northeast Ohio’s most engaging Americana/roots-style ensembles. Their three CDs — 2010’s Red Wine, 2013’s Honey Man and 2015’s What I Did — are packed with tuneful gems that draw on blues, country, bluegrass, pop, rock and even jazz, all wrapped up in Laurie’s supple, sexy voice.

Now the group has an entirely different project in the pipeline, ready to emerge. It’s a CD with an illustrated booklet called Silver Ribbon Dream—People and Stories of the Ohio & Erie Canal. Laurie Caner and artist Leandra Drumm collaborated on it, with Drumm providing illustrations for the stories about the canal’s history.

They’ll be hosting a release concert at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall, which will feature an exhibition of the artwork, music by the band and talks by the artists. Tickets are $19 in advance, $25 at the door.
