Harvest festivals are everywhere this time of year, and there’s no better place to celebrate than Hale Farm & Village, the historic village/museum nestled in rural Summit County, where the scenery is lovely and the leaves will hopefully be displaying their autumn colors.
The family-friendly festival differs from many others in that it gives visitors the chance to see how 19th century Ohioans prepared for the coming winter, with demonstrations of how they preserve and stored food and prepped their gardens for the cold months ahead. There’ll be demonstrations of other crafts such as blacksmithing, broom making, spinning, weaving and candle dipping that were essential for survival 150 years ago amidst the 30 historic building onsite.
Visitors can also try their hand at things such as apple cider pressing and butter churning, jump in hay piles, paint pumpkins, or explore the handcrafted items for sale at the artisans’ market. The Hale Café wil be open for fall treats such as pumpkin pie and that apple cider you were helping to press.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 3-12.
