Kent’s Standing Rock Cultural Arts Around the World Series Finds Polka in Our Own Backyard

Sat 9/22 @ 8PM

Kent’s Standing Rock Cultural Arts’ “Around the World” music series has indeed travelled around the world, bringing in performers who do African, Indian and Japanese music, among others. They’ve done some American bluegrass as well.

But they really looked close to home for the next performers. Patty C and the Guys are well-known to those who attend polka events around Greater Cleveland as purveyors of “the happiest sound around.” They continue in the tradition of the early 20th-century Slovenians who created Cleveland-style polka, honored in the Polka Hall of Fame in Euclid and raised to its height of popularity in mid-century by the ever-smiling Frankie Yankovic. Button box player Patty C (Candela) is quite a smiler herself, so this evening will be an upbeat one.

It starts with a meet-and-greet at 7:30pm, with light food (Slovenian pastries!) and drinks, followed by music at 8. It’s a $10 suggested donation or pay what you can.
