Hipster Assassins Play Skronky Jazz @ BOP STOP

Sat 9/28 @ 8PM

If Felix Pastorius’ name has a familiar ring, yeah, you’re right — the 37-year-old bassist is the son of Jaco Pastorius, whose talent on that instrument was legendary and influential. Felix was only five when his father died in 1987 at age 35 from injuries sustained in a bar fight. So he can’t be said to be directly influenced by him, but maybe there’s something in the genes. He cites complex players such as Victor Wooten and Les Claypool as his guiding lights.

While playing with Yellowjackets for several years, among other ensembles, he’s also been part of what’s described as “a collaborative endeavor of virtuosic talent,” dubbed Hipster Assassins, since 2010. It features five strong musicians including ax player Chris Ward, guitarist John Bendy, bassist Mike Bendy and drummer Kenny Grohowksi. Their skronky, buzzy, busy sound is a technical music geek’s wet dream. There’s a LOT going on in there!

They’ll be performing at the BOP STOP; tickets are $20.
