Learn About the Challenges and Benefits of Immigration at the Parma-Snow Library

Sat 2/16 @ 2-4:15PM

We all know that the Greater Cleveland area is one that is proudly diverse, home to immigrants and refugees from all over the world — but there are still many issues that families and individuals continue to face. Hearing the strong rhetoric from our President, baselessly blaming immigrants for crime and economic burden, is difficult for many of us to hear. But we might not fully understand the underlying policies that are working against our neighbors and loved ones.

The Greater Cleveland Immigrant Support Network is hoping to educate the community about those policies, as well as immigrants’ greater positive impact on the region, in their panel discussion Newcomers to the U.S.: Challenges and Benefits. Featuring experts from across many fields, the Network will seek to answer questions on immigration laws and experiences, and how that interacts with our economy.

Panelists include Alan Fortnoff, a founding member of Akron Interfaith Immigration Advocates; Tania Nemer, who has years of experience in immigration law during her time at McGinty, Hilow & Spellacy Co. LPA and as Senior Immigration Attorney for Catholic Charities Cleveland; and Lynn Tramonte who is the founder and director of the Ohio Immigrant Alliance.

The Immigrant Support Network’s work includes advocacy for immigrants and refugees through educational initiatives like this one, policy advocacy, legal referrals and consultations, and more. Making Cleveland a warm and welcoming home will always be a group effort, and the often the first step to being a part of the solution is understanding the problem. This is a free panel discussion that will take place on Sat 2/16 from 2:00-4:15pm at the Parma Snow Library.
