Tue 6/5 @ 7PM
Things should be lively for a Tuesday night at Mac’s Backs in Cleveland Heights’ Coventry Village when it hosts “An evening of Spoken Word and World Music.”
New Orleans-based Cleveland native John Spuzzillo, an ethnomusicologist with wide-ranging world music interests, including Latin jazz, Brazilian, African and second-line music, will perform music based on his latest project, which involves linking together a series of ancient Sufi stories with African Karimba music. He’ll be joined by his long-time collaborator Jeffrey Bowen, a published poet and member of many local jazz, R&B, reggae and rock groups including Cats on Holiday, who will contribute percussion and original poetry.
The event is free; they’ll pass a hat for the performers in the tradition of the Barking Spider.
