Detroit’s Thornetta Davis Brings Sweet Soul Music and Smoky Blues to the Music Box

Sat 12/29 @ 8PM

While Thornetta Davis have has been called Detroit’s Queen of the Blues, her musical range is far more expansive than that. She’s really a contemporary version of a classic soul singer, blending R&B and pop with the blues, throughout her more than 30-year career. Her music evokes the golden era of soul music, making her in demand as an opening act for artists such as Gladys Knight, Etta James, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and Bonnie Raitt.

She released a pair of albums on Seattle’s hipster label Sub Pop in the late ’90s which produced a small buzz among indie rockers, but didn’t do much to break her out of the blues/R&B scene. Never mind; she perseveres. Her latest album,2016’s Honest Woman, was released independently. She returns to the music Box Supper Club for another show.

Tickets are $18 in advance, $22 day of show.
