Multi-Generational Spring Quartet Brings Together Jazz Greats for Oberlin Artist Recital Series

Wed 4/17 @ 7:30PM

Mon 4/15-Wed 4/17

Oberlin’s 2018-2019 Artist Recital Series draws to a close with a special event. The Spring Quartet is an all-star, multi-generational jazz ensemble featuring 76-year-old drummer Jack DeJohnette, 66-year-old tenor saxophone player (and Cleveland native) Joe Lovano, 40-year-old pianist Leo Genovese, and 34-year-old bassist Esperanza Spalding.

DeJohnette is considered one of the most influential drummers in jazz; he’s played with a staggering roster of greats including Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett. Spalding and Lovano are both Grammy winners. Lovano, Spalding and Genovese all attended the world-famous Berklee School of Music in Boston.

Tickets for the concert at Finney Chapel are $35; $30 for seniors, military & Oberlin staff, faculty & alumni, $10 for students.

The concert is part of a celebration marking the 30th anniversary of Oberlin’s Jazz Studies degree, taking place Mon 4/15-Wed 4/17, with films, talks, performances and other special events. Go here for a schedule.
