The Food Shed, a new nonprofit devoted to strengthen the local food system, is hosting a Pickle Party!
What’s that, you ask? It’s inviting people to bring the leftovers from their gardens, the stuff in their CSA that they never figured out what to do with, and the slightly past-their-prime veggies in the fridge, down to the Bottlehouse Brewery in Cleveland Heights, where they’ll be chopped up, put in jars and prepared for fermentation.
You can bring your own lidded fermentation jars, knives and peelers or borrow some from the Food Shed. They’ll bring the salt!
Birdsong Farm will have organic produce available to purchase, and Cleveland Kraut will be offering samples and tips on fermentation, as well as having their own products on hand for sale. And anything that’s left over will be taken away to be composted by Rust Belt Riders.
