Americana Singer/Songwriter Kim Richey Touches Down at the Akron Civic Theatre

Sat 1/5 @ 8PM

Kim Richey is an alt-country/Americana singer/songwriter out of Zanesville, Ohio, not exactly a music mecca. Yet she’s released nine albums and had her songs recorded by such acts as Radney Foster, Tricia Yearwood and Brooks & Dunn.

“Writing songs is what I do; it’s how I connect with the world.,” she says in the press release for her ninth album, Edgeland, released last March on Yep Roc Records.

On it she’s enlisted the services of a lot of musicians she’s met over the years, including some of Nashville’s top roots-style session players and co-writers such as Chuck Prophet, former Steeldrivers member Mike Henderson, NRBQ’s Al Anderson and Pittsburgh singer/songwriter who fronted rock quintet the Gathering Field in the 90s.

At 62, Richey is still a road dog.

“Right now, my stuff is all in storage,” she says. “I’ve lived in a lot of different places – different countries even. It’s a little overwhelming, keeping track of stuff, but it’s been an amazing trip because music has taken me places I never dreamed.”

She’ll touch down at the Akron Civic Theatre for an intimate cabaret-style show where the audience sits with the performer onstage. As an added treat, Akron’s own Ryan Humbert and Emily Bates, longtime performance partners, are the opeing act.

Tickets are $20.
