Broken Ornaments at the BOP STOP Takes a New Approach to Holiday Tunes

Thu 12/20 @ 8PM

If you are sick and tired of Christmas carols being piped into every space you enter to the point of making fun of them, Broken Ornaments: A Holiday Concert with an Impulse Towards Destruktion at the BOP STOP may be your cup of Christmas wassail. There’s nothing sentimental or treacly about this concert.

A group of six musicians will be playing those holiday unfavorites (Oh no, not another rendition of “Little Drummer Boy”!) in the style of avant- garde/improvisational greats such as Ornette Coleman, Bill Frisell, Cleveland’s own Albert Ayler and other musicians who deconstructed the tunes they tackled. It’s “Little Drummer Boy” (and “Wonderful Christmas Time” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and more) like you’ve never heard it!

Players include some of the area’s most active experimental musicians: the organizers, sax player Dan Wenninger and guitarist Mike Sopko; drummer Neil Chastain; trumpet player Don Volenik; bassist Rick Kodramaz; and harpist Stephan Haluska.

Admission is $12.
