This year is the 50th anniversary of the most famous fire on the Cuyahoga River (there were actually many), the one that got national attention and helped drive the creation of the Clean Water Act and the formation of the Environmental Protection Agency. And you’re going to be hearing about it, and hearing about it, and hearing about it, with programs, events and installations of all types.
This week at Happy Days Lodge in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, a panel of experts will tell the “Crooked River Chronicles” story of the segment of the Cuyahoga River that’s within the park, and how the river changed from an industrial sewer to become a natural asset flowing through a national park.
Moderated by the League of Women Voters Akron Area, the panel includes support from West Creek Conservancy, Xtinguish Celebration, Ohio Humanities and Cleveland Humanities Festival who will be on hand when the doors open at 6pm to share information about the projects they’re working on. The event will feature historic photos, archival documents, and personal memories.
